DAY 1 — ARUSHA → TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Elephants, Baobabs & the Beginning of Your Safari
Your adventure begins in Arusha, the gateway to Tanzania’s northern safari circuit.
After breakfast, meet your professional safari guide and depart in a private 4×4 safari vehicle.
The journey toward Tarangire takes you through rural Tanzania, with opportunities to see farms, villages and traditional ways of life along the way.

Enjoy dinner beneath the African night sky.
Overnight: Tarangire / Karatu area
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
DAY 2 — TARANGIRE → NGORONGORO HIGHLANDS
Wildlife, Rift Valley Landscapes & Maasai Culture
Wake early for breakfast before enjoying a final morning game drive or departing directly toward the Ngorongoro Highlands, depending on wildlife priorities and the location of your lodge.
The route passes through spectacular countryside as the landscape rises toward the Great Rift Valley and volcanic highlands.
Ngorongoro Highlands
As you approach the conservation area, the environment changes dramatically.
Open savannah gives way to:
- Highland forests
- Rolling hills
- Volcanic landscapes
- Farmland
- Maasai settlements
- Grazing cattle
The journey itself becomes part of the safari.
Maasai Cultural Experience
In the afternoon, visit a Maasai community with a locally organized cultural programme.
Learn about:
- Traditional pastoralism
- Maasai homes
- Cattle culture
- Traditional clothing
- Community structures
- Indigenous knowledge
- Traditional songs and dances
- The relationship between people and wildlife
Where possible, interact directly with community members rather than simply watching a performance.
Evening
Continue to your lodge in the Ngorongoro area.
Relax and prepare for one of the greatest wildlife experiences of the journey tomorrow.
Overnight: Ngorongoro Highlands / Karatu
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
DAY 3 — NGORONGORO CRATER
Descend Into Africa’s Wildlife Amphitheatre
Wake early.
After breakfast, drive toward the crater rim and prepare for one of Tanzania’s most spectacular experiences.
As the safari vehicle descends into the crater, the enormous ecosystem unfolds below you.
The crater floor contains:
- Open grasslands
- Acacia woodland
- Wetlands
- Lakes
- Marshes
- Seasonal streams
Full-Day Crater Safari
Spend the day exploring the crater floor.
Your guide will search for:
Black Rhinoceros
Ngorongoro is one of Tanzania’s important habitats for the endangered black rhinoceros.
Sightings are never guaranteed, but searching for these magnificent animals is one of the day’s highlights.
Lions
The open grasslands provide excellent habitat for lions.
You may find prides resting in the shade or actively hunting.
Elephants
Watch elephants moving through the crater ecosystem and surrounding woodland.
Hippos
Visit the crater’s wetlands where hippos spend much of the day submerged in water.
Buffaloes
Large herds may be encountered grazing across the plains.
Zebras & Wildebeest
These herbivores form an important part of the crater ecosystem.
Flamingos
Depending on water conditions and season, flamingos may gather around Lake Magadi.
Picnic Lunch
Enjoy a packed lunch at a designated picnic area.
Your guide will ensure the group follows park regulations and maintains a safe distance from wildlife.
After lunch, continue the game drive.
Late Afternoon
Begin ascending the crater walls and return to your lodge.
Overnight: Ngorongoro / Karatu
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
DAY 4 — NGORONGORO → SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Entering the Endless Plains
Today you leave the Ngorongoro Highlands and enter one of the most famous wildlife ecosystems on Earth.
After breakfast, begin the scenic journey toward the Serengeti.
Along the way, you may encounter Maasai pastoralists and wildlife moving across the open landscape.
Arrival in Serengeti
As you enter Serengeti National Park, the landscape opens dramatically.
The plains stretch toward the horizon.
This is the land of enormous herds and some of Africa’s most famous predators.
Afternoon Game Drive
Begin your first Serengeti safari immediately.
Depending on the location and season, look for:
- Lions
- Leopards
- Cheetahs
- Elephants
- Buffaloes
- Giraffes
- Zebras
- Wildebeest
- Gazelles
- Hyenas
- Hippos
- Ostriches
The Great Migration
If your travel dates coincide with the migration cycle, your guide will adapt the safari route according to the location of the herds.
Millions of wildebeest and large numbers of zebra and gazelles move through the wider Serengeti–Mara ecosystem during their annual migration.
The exact location of the herds changes throughout the year, so no specific migration sighting can be guaranteed.
Sunset Safari
As evening approaches, find a suitable viewpoint for a classic Serengeti sunset.
Watch the landscape change from bright golden grasslands to deep orange and finally into the African night.
Overnight: Serengeti National Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
DAY 5 — SERENGETI
Full-Day Predator & Wildlife Adventure
Today is dedicated entirely to the Serengeti.
Wake before sunrise and prepare for an early game drive.
The first hours of the day can be particularly rewarding because temperatures are cooler and many animals are active.
Sunrise Safari
Watch the sun rise over the Serengeti while searching for wildlife.
Possible sightings include:
- Lions returning from a night hunt
- Cheetahs preparing for the morning hunt
- Leopards resting in trees
- Hyenas moving between territories
- Elephants crossing the plains
- Giraffes feeding
- Zebras and wildebeest beginning to graze
Breakfast in the Wilderness
Depending on park regulations and the location of your camp, enjoy breakfast at camp or a designated safe area.
Then continue your game drive.
Optional Hot-Air Balloon Safari
For travellers looking for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, a hot-air balloon safari can be added.
Rise before dawn and float silently above the Serengeti.
From the air, you may see:
- Herds moving across the plains
- Wildlife trails
- Rivers
- Woodland
- Endless grasslands
After landing, enjoy a traditional bush breakfast before returning to your safari vehicle.
Optional activity — additional cost.
Afternoon Predator Search
Continue your safari in the afternoon.
Your guide will use local knowledge, animal tracks and recent wildlife movements to determine the most promising areas.
This is particularly exciting for photographers hoping to capture:
- Lions interacting with their pride
- Cheetahs in open grasslands
- Leopards in woodland
- Hyenas around dens
- Elephant families
- Large herbivore herds
Final Serengeti Sunset
Find a scenic location for your final Serengeti sunset.
The combination of wildlife, golden grasslands and the changing African sky provides a spectacular conclusion to your Serengeti experience.
Return to camp for dinner.
Overnight: Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
DAY 6 — SERENGETI → ARUSHA / DEPARTURE
One Last African Morning
Your final day begins with an optional early morning game drive.
This is your last opportunity to search for wildlife before leaving the Serengeti.
Depending on your departure arrangements, you may choose between:
OPTION A — Morning Game Drive + Road Transfer
Enjoy breakfast, undertake a final game drive and then begin the journey toward Arusha.
This option is suitable for travellers with a later departure.
OPTION B — Serengeti Airstrip + Flight
For travellers wanting to minimize driving, take a scheduled flight from a Serengeti airstrip toward Arusha.
This saves substantial road travel time and provides spectacular aerial views of Tanzania’s landscape.
Farewell to Tanzania
Arrive in Arusha and, depending on your flight schedule, enjoy lunch or some final time in the city.
Optional activities can include:
- Local market visit
- Souvenir shopping
- Tanzanian coffee experience
- Cultural centre
- Relaxation at a day-use hotel

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL
Tanzania’s northern safari circuit can be visited throughout the year.
June–October: Generally excellent for wildlife viewing and dry-season safari conditions.
January–March: Excellent period for wildlife viewing in many areas and often associated with the wildebeest calving season in the southern Serengeti.
April–May: Green landscapes and potentially lower-season rates, although some properties have seasonal closures and rainfall can affect road conditions.
The best month depends on whether your priority is predators, the Great Migration, calving season, photography, birding, or budget.
